The Backstory

Bali Espresso Coffee Company started with a simple frustration: the best coffee in Indonesia rarely made it out of the country as anything but an anonymous commodity, blended away and roasted dark until nothing of the highland was left. Sari grew up near the Kintamani slopes; Ketut spent a decade learning the drum in Miami. The company is what happened when those two facts met.

We source single-origin lots direct from independent farmers in the Bali highlands, Sulawesi, and Sumatra — the same producers, season after season — and roast every batch to order in the Wynwood Arts District. No warehouse of stale green, no house blend hiding a tired lot. The coffee that reaches your cup is traceable to a specific washing station, a specific altitude, and a specific week on our roast calendar.

The terminal aesthetic is a joke we take seriously. Coffee is chemistry, and roasting is running a physical process against tight tolerances. Treating a roast profile like a versioned build — recompiled when the input changes, purged when it drifts — is genuinely how we keep three origins consistent across a wholesale bar, a subscription box, and a retail shelf at once.

DIRECT, NOT DISTANT

We buy from a small cluster of highland farmers we visit twice a year, and pay above the commodity price, fast. Fair credit transfer keeps the best cherry coming to us — and keeps the origin story honest.

PURGE THE FILLER

If a batch drifts more than 2% from its target profile, it does not ship. We would rather roast less and clear the tasting-room bench than pad an order with coffee we would not drink ourselves.
